Question by Mooch: Were is the best place to rent a camping tent and how much does it cost?
I am haveing a camping party in my back yard and would like to rent a tent that 5-6 people can sleep in.

Gosh. I’m not sure where you are located but REI used to rent such gear, but I’d try any local sports/outdoor supply store to ask them.
This would be the kind of gear you either just buy or borrow from a family member/friend/neighbor.

Camping Crunch [50D-2151-53Crop]

On a camping trip with a group of friends, we had a little excitement in the middle of the night. We were awakened by a loud cracking and crashing sound followed shortly by cries for help. We rushed out to find that a large tree limb had fallen on the tent of a couple who were in our party. Miraculously, the limb landed right between the two of them. One person was on a cot on one side of the tent and the other person was on an air mattress on the other side. The tree limb missed both of them by mere inches. It also missed their dog who was sleeping outside of the tent. The woman in the cot was pinned down by the branches and rescuers had to pull the legs out from under the cot to get her out. The couple and their dog were badly shaken but, by good fortune, unscathed.

This shot was taken in the night immediately after the incident, illuminated only by a pair of vehicle headlights.

Unfortunately, I hadn’t noticed, until most of the shots were taken, that the auto-focus switch on the lens had gotten tripped to the off postion. So, if the photos seem poorly focused, that is why. It seems to happen in my cramped camera bag–need to get a new one slightly larger.

Question by Emily: Southern Wisconsin tent camping for large groups?
Every year, seniors in my high school go camping for 2 nights and 3 days in Indiana. Its usually about 50-150 people, varies every year. This past year however, they were kicked out of their site for a noise complaint from neighbors. As I am planning camping in May 2011, I would like to find a place in southern Wisconsin: small, affordable for high schoolers, probably not very family-friendly, preferably by a lake, and somewhat lenient on things such as quiet hours, bonfires, and parties. Any suggestions?
